The Incredible Hulk! 1979 Jack Kirby Original Comic Art! Marvel Magic!

By the late 70s, Jack Kirby (one of the main architects of the "Marvel Universe" in the 60s) was about to call quits to his second stint at Marvel (1975-1978), embarking on a rewarding career as a designer and concept artist for animation. But, before leaving, the "King" crafted this amazing image (possibly actually created in 1977), for use in the 1979 INCREDIBLE HULK calendar! Tho this art looks deceptively simple, it really captures the Hulk character completely, as it oozes mood, menace, and mystery! Jack was ably assisted on inks by Joe Sinnott, tho the creative colorist is unknown! Click below to enlarge!

Thanks to the Romitaman art site for this one!

The Incredible HULK! 1979 Rare Origin Story! Herb Trimpe! Marvel!

I've covered the captivating contents of the nifty 1979 Marvel HULK Calendar before, but here is something very special. The same colossal calendar sported this special frontispiece, a then-new re-telling of the awe-inspiring origin of the ever-incredible Hulk! Drawn by ol' Greenskin's main artist of the 70s, Herb Trimpe, this fun little re-cap has never been reprinted anywhere (as far as I know), and is a nice little rarely-seen treat! 1979 was the period of "Hulkmania," with the live-action CBS TV show in high gear, and Hulk's misshapen mug appearing on more kinds of merchandise than you could shake an errant gamma ray at! BONUS! Click below to enlarge this pic of Herb Trimpe, deep in concentration at his drawing desk, in the far-famed Marvel Bullpen, circa 1970!

Have a Knock-Out November! 1979 Hulk Marvel Calendar! John Byrne Art!

As you know, the dates for 1979 eerily line up perfectly for those of 2012, so here is yet another month from the awesome Incredible Hulk '79 calendar! The nifty November entry spotlights a terrific drawing by jocular John Byrne and terrific Terry Austin! The famed X-MEN drawing duo recall the 1975 HULK storyline where ol' Green-Skin battled the forces of "Counter-Earth," an alternate world much like ours, but populated with the oddball animal-men made possible by the hoot-a-minute High Evolutionary! Also, dig the birthday shout-outs to great Marvel mavens, such as the team responsible for the first round of the "new" X-MEN revival, Chris Claremont and Dave Cockrum! Print and use! Want even more X-MEN tie-ins to this marvel-ous month? Dig the Saturday, the 10th entry! That's right! X-MEN's Wolverine
started as a Hulk villain! Wednesday, the 28th? The Locust is a re-heated X-MEN foe from the 60s!

Have an Awesome October! 1979 Hulk Calendar! Sal Buscema Strikes!

Back again, with more rarely-seen artwork from the far-famed 1979 INCREDIBLE HULK Marvel Comics calendar! This time, we zero in on October, with a fabulous re-creation of a mighty early-70s clash (check out the image for the 12th) between ol' Jade Jaws and the sensational Spider-Man himself! Re-interpretted by "our pal" Sal Buscema (with an assist from John Romita, Sr. and Dave Hunt), we get treated to a drawing that's full of action, drama, and deadly danger! Then, look below to glom the fabulous doings of that October month, with birthdays for Marvel mavens  such as Joe Sinnott and Larry Lieber (brother to some guy named Stan Lee)! Since this 1979 calendar lines up perfectly with the dates for 2012, print it and use it! Click here to see previous months! Click images below to enlarge!

BONUS! Look below to stare at the original Hulk vs Spidey battle, and the different interpretations of the dynamic dust-up, by John Romita (below, left), and John Byrne (below, right)!
