The Model Kits Aurora Never Made! Flash! Green Arrow! Aquaman! 1976 DC Comics!

Before the days of DC Direct, Diamond Select, and other firms that have brought us endless rounds of high-quality busts, statues, and action figures of every known comics character that ever existed, fans had to make their own custom figures of the lesser-known superheroes! Dig this 1976 article, from the SUPER DC CON booklet, all about fans customizing the existing awesome Aurora kits, in order to have their own 3-D versions of the Flash, Green Lantern, and Hawkman!  Of course, in the mid-70s, the Aurora super-kits had just been re-issued as part of the "Comic Scenes" line (note how the author complains about their $3.99 prices), so any customizer had his pick of figures and parts to "mash-up!" This kind of hobby still exists, of course, as feverish followers of the comics make their own characters, or combine different ones, or add to existing models and action figures! Click below to enlarge!

Customizers still use the same tools and methods mentioned here, all in an effort to create their own one-of-a-kind figures and kits!

This customizer should count himself lucky, as, by the mid-70s, getting your hands on the 1965 Aurora WONDER WOMAN kit was almost
impossible, as this was the one superhero model not re-issued in the "Comic Scenes" line-up!
