1970 SPIDER-MAN Cover Art! John Romita (and Black Widow) Strikes Again! Marvel!

Does it get any better than this? Here is the mind-bending cover art to AMAZING SPIDER-MAN #86, from 1970! Drawn by the incomparable John Romita Sr., this is the incredible issue that introduced the "new" beauteous Black Widow (in a nifty new costume designed by JRSR himself)!  Dig that flawless composition! The shading and texture effects (much of it, unfortunately, lost in the final printing), and the sense of drama and danger! Click to enlarge!

Notice how Romita added a skirt to the silhouette of the Widow! The reconfigured
costume design may not have been finalized when he drew this cover!

BONUS! Look below for an excerpt from the above awesome issue, to see the "how and why" of the Black Widow's severe sartorial substitution!

This is one of my favorite covers, but I never noticed that detail. I wonder if the costume was supposed to look like Ultima's (see Savage She-Hulk #10 or Marvel Two-In-One #89)?
