Unpublished DETECTIVE COMICS Cover! Irv Novick Original 1968 Batman Comic Art!

Another unused (but fantastic) DC Comics cover from the sizzlin' Silver Age! Here we see the rejected cover for DETECTIVE COMICS #379, by long-time BATMAN artist, Irv Novick! The published cover does put an extra emphasis on the shocked face of the observer, but the first design seems more exciting, immediate, and off-kilter! Which is YOUR favorite? Click to enlarge!

The rejected cover looks more "Marvel-style" in its dynamism, while the published version is a typically sedate DC cover of its day. I know which one I prefer...

The spilled drink in the unused cover is a little odd, given that's the most logical spot for the thought balloon. In the published version, you really have to wonder why someone thought a pair of obvious tv monitors needed a label reading "tv monitor"!
