A Tale of Two HULK Covers! TALES TO ASTONISH 101 Times Two! Kirby! Severin!

Click below to enlarge this image of the original art for the cover(s) of Marvel's TALES TO ASTONISH 101! Compare the two Marie Severin-drawn covers, the published version (left) to the unpublished and unused one (right). It was thought that the published design, with added crowd scene by Jack "King" Kirby, was more exciting and engaging, but they both seem darned --incredible!

On the subject of tampering with artwork, you'll notice that during this period Kirby's Hulk figure in the logo corner had a Gil Kane Hulk head pasted onto it!
